Summary

Within the world of Aadilor, there is a hidden place called the Thief Kingdom, where both magic and pleasure abound。 There, the Mousai, a trio of deadly sorceresses bound by oath and blood, use their powers to protect the kingdom’s treasures。

Niya Bassette brings the potent gift of dance to the Mousai, but behind her tempting twirls, she carries a heavy secret—that the infamous pirate lord, Alōs Ezra, has been threatening to exploit for years。 Now banished from the Thief Kingdom for smuggling, Alōs resurfaces in Niya’s life with a plot to hold her hostage, leveraging what he knows to extort a pardon from the Thief King。

But Niya makes her own deal with Alōs to guard her secret and guarantee her freedom—yet in doing so binds herself aboard his pirate ship, where she must navigate deadly waters, a bloodthirsty crew, and her own traitorous heart。 Soon, a simmering attraction between her and Alōs threatens their delicate truce and makes for a tumultuous ride on the open seas。 Far from her kingdom, Niya is entangled in a dangerous dance indeed。

Welcome to the world of Aadilor, where dark deeds can mask noble hearts and the most alluring of sways often ends with a burn。 Care for a spin?

From award-winning author E。 J。 Mellow comes the thrilling second installment in the Mousai series, featuring a powerful sorceress who finds her loyalties tested by a ruthless pirate lord。

Another good taleWell written story continuing the stories of The Mousai, three sisters with powerful, complimentary magical gifts。 This tale follows Niya, who's gifts lie in the areas of movement and heat。 Almost more of a background exploration of another character, Alos, but taken from the point of view of Niya。 Well put together and an entertaining story, can you really ask for more? Wow what a book! I absolutely loved this book, I even think I loved it more than the first book! I highly recommend this series!

I almost loved it as much as book 1 but, not quite。 I think it's because I felt more of a kinship with the other sister from book 1, Larkyra。 I like Niya as a character and it is fun to read from her perspective but, I couldn't relate to her as much。 But, the pirate in this book is more swoon-worthy than Darius (from book 1) so。。。 I guess it evens out! I’m really enjoying this series。 I love the witty banter between characters and watching the characters grow throughout the book。 The sisters are easy to fall in love with and the romance in each novel is fun to watch。 Can’t wait for the next book in the series!

Stunner of a follow-up to Mousai #1。 Coming into this one knowing the universe in which we were operating allowed EJ Mellow to go much deeper into the characters at the center of the plot, and what an adventure it was - pirate filled adventures on the open seas, meeting new sub-worlds within Aalidor - and diving into Niya and Alos' journeys was a roller coaster ride。 Can't wait for the third book! I found this book to be a far more standard romance (read bodice-ripper) offering than the first, which had more humor and a more unusual protagonist。 Eminently readable timepass, not terribly memorable。 I'll likely read the third one too if I don't have to pay for it。 I found this book to be a far more standard romance (read bodice-ripper) offering than the first, which had more humor and a more unusual protagonist。 Eminently readable timepass, not terribly memorable。 I'll likely read the third one too if I don't have to pay for it。 。。。more

I freaking love these books! If it wasn’t for stupid work and sleep, I would’ve devoured it in no time at all。 Second book in the series and this time we focus on Niya。 It is several years after the first book。 I’m not a “spoilers in review” kind of gal but honey, go read this book away from prying eyes *sigh*Alos is a hottie patottie badass pirate。 His swagger and one liners remind me of guys I went out with in college lol。 I appreciated that we got some chapters from his POV; it really added d I freaking love these books! I read this book in one breath。 I preordered it and it got auto-delivered to my Kindle on October 19th, and I'm pretty sure I was done reading by the 24th。 It's one of those books you sneak moments with whenever you can because you cannot wait to reunite with the characters and see where the adventure takes them next。 Larkyra and Darius are still my favorites, but I do appreciate the complexity of Niya's and Alos's relationship and how challenging it was to write this book。 E。 J。 Mellow once aga I read this book in one breath。 I preordered it and it got auto-delivered to my Kindle on October 19th, and I'm pretty sure I was done reading by the 24th。 It's one of those books you sneak moments with whenever you can because you cannot wait to reunite with the characters and see where the adventure takes them next。 Larkyra and Darius are still my favorites, but I do appreciate the complexity of Niya's and Alos's relationship and how challenging it was to write this book。 E。 J。 Mellow once again delights us with a great work of penmanship。 。。。more

Another gorgeous cover in this series! One of my favorite things in these books is the characters。 I love books that have great characters。 Watching them grow is so satisfying。 I think these books have some of the best character development I have ever read。 I can’t wait to read what happens next with Arabessa’s story。

A slow start。Took a few pages to get into this book, for it to make sense。 Great story once it got going。

Chrisie

DNF。 Main character was super annoying this time。 Couldn’t tolerate her。

Karina

Whoooo loved it now gotta wait for the 3rd one

The Man from DelMonte

Much better。 There is, quite literally, a lot of smouldering, and it’s still very purple in places but generally but much better paced than the first volume。 The problem, if problem it is, with these kind of books is that there isn’t really any tension。 The outcome is known in advance, and for two creatures with near godlike power, the only problem for the author is what kind of credible problems are the protagonists are going to have to overcome for their happy ending。

Words can’t explain how beautiful and perfect this book it is !!! ❤️

Brilliant。 Niya and Alos' story is full of tension, adventure, and action。 It's filled with an entire cast of characters you'll love。 EJ Mellow has created such a different, dynamic world。 It's a triumph。 Brilliant。 Niya and Alos' story is full of tension, adventure, and action。 It's filled with an entire cast of characters you'll love。 EJ Mellow has created such a different, dynamic world。 It's a triumph。 。。。more

After reading book 1 and seeing the interaction between Niya and Alos that this book was going to be good。 Happily it did not disappoint。 The fact that there was history between the two made it that much more enjoyable as they danced around each other forging a partnership to get what they both wanted。 I wanted more of everything in this book because I didn't want it to end。 After reading book 1 and seeing the interaction between Niya and Alos that this book was going to be good。 Happily it did not disappoint。 The fact that there was history between the two made it that much more enjoyable as they danced around each other forging a partnership to get what they both wanted。 I wanted more of everything in this book because I didn't want it to end。 。。。more

Not as good as the first bookMaybe I just don’t like Miya as much as Lakyra and Arabessa was more annoying in this one。 There is one very explicit sex scene that I was not expecting which kind of ruined it for me so I doubt I will be reading any more from this author。

Emily

3。5 stars。 The love interests in this are what kept me going, despite the cheesy dialogue at times。 The illusion gets shattered by contemporary dialogue in a high fantasy setting and writing that tries too hard to be eloquent--quite the juxtaposition。 I found myself getting bored and skimming。 Kind of disappointed cause I was very intrigued by the love interests in this sequel。 It was still a decent read but a bit of a letdown。

Cate

it’s giving cool girl odyssey

This book is so dang good!!! I really liked the first book but this one is so much better! I could not put it down。 I hated Alos at first, but I was obsessed with him by the end。 The connection and tension between these two characters was so strong and well written。 I loved the story and the pirate aspect of this book。 The supporting characters were interesting, and I enjoyed Niya’s strong-will and stubbornness。 I can’t wait for the third book now。

3。5 stars。 I did not enjoy this sequel as much the first Mousai book- maybe it was Niya- who I found quite spoiled and abrasive much of the time- or the sea setting at sea which took us away from the Thief Kingdom- but somehow the magic was less for me。 I will still read the next in series though as I think this was a particular combination that didn’t quite tick the boxes for me!

I absolutely adored the first of the Mousai books, Song of the Forever Rains but this one may have a slight edge on the first。  I love the magic and fantastical elements of both books in this series (technically I suppose they are standalone set in the same world) but Dance of a Burning Sea definitely had more adventure。  I liked that it was a bit faster pace than Song of the Forever Rains but both books I think are wonderfully written and definitely worthy reads。

Loved it! I really enjoyed the first book so was super excited to read this one as well, especially as I already loved Niya from her short appearances in book #1。 I actually ended up enjoying this way more than the first book though!
